THORNHILL
WSP is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Facilities Group, located at either our Thornhill office. Reporting to the Director of the Facilities Group, this position will be responsible for working with multi-disciplinary teams to take innovative design solutions from proposals through to constructed projects for clients in a wide variety of Sectors.

A day in the life….
Support one or more department Project Managers on all required design and construction-related mechanical engineering scope on multiple projects;
Perform engineering calculations and assessments for HVAC systems, plumbing systems and gas/fuel systems;
Utilize engineering software in the analysis of building heating/cooling loads, as well as utility consumption estimates;
Manage and coordinate projects with clients and other disciplines;
Respond to client request for proposals;
Write technical reports;
Edit specifications to suit project-specific requirements;
Manage time spent on design tasks to meet established project-specific workplans;
Working with BIM software to coordinate model and drawing preparation;
Complete engineering assessments;
Participate in national practice technical initiatives, as required;
Keep detailed records of all work including design calculations and models;
Occasional travel within Canada on occasion for site assessments and site support;
Other duties as assigned.
We’d love to hear from you if you have….
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering;
Registered Professional Engineer with the PEO;
7-12 years of experience;
Working knowledge of all applicable local and national building codes and standards;
Design experience should be municipal facilities focused and can include some or all of the following: Municipal (water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping station, reservoirs), industrial (solid waste facilities).
Should have general working knowledge of other building disciplines;
A successful candidate will have a solid technical background with proficiency in HVAC Load Calculation (using HAP, Trace or similar software), combined with a strong portfolio of design work on buildings projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required;
Experience in the design of fuel and ventilation systems for standby power system is required;
Proficiency in the use of Revit for the creation of accurate models and detailed Drawings is required;
Proficiency in utilizing Revit to generate equipment take-offs, pipe/duct sizing and the use of parametrized family data is an asset;
Working knowledge of NFPA 820 is an asset;
Experience working as a sub-consultant to an Architects or Design-Build Contractor;
Project management experience an asset;
