Job Description: Junior Mechanical Designer (Full-time)
As Junior Mechanical Designer, most of your time will be spent working with the mechanical engineering team creating & drafting parts, weldments and assemblies using SolidWorks. Secondarily, you will assist fabricators, purchasing and receiving for quality checks and manufacturability questions related to your designs.
After fabrication, travel to site may be required to assist with installation, start-up and supporting your designs. Site work, though limited, may require international travel up to 10 days, typically no more than once per quarter.
The machines we work on, range from small special purpose assembly machines to large paper converting & packaging machines. The ability to problem solve and develop creative solutions is required. Our clients come to us to tackle some of the most complicated obstacles in the manufacturing and packaging sectors.
Technical writing for installation documents, maintenance procedures and quality checks will also be a part of the project work assigned.
Essential Skills & Experience
Some experience with Solidworks or other 3D modelling software
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering field
Mechanical adept at analyzing mechanical assemblies for manufacturability and assembly
Ability to use tools for assembly and quality such as, but not limited to, calipers, micrometers, and hand tools for assembly.
Ability to understand design intent as it relates to general physics
Working knowledge of Microsoft products such as Excel and Word
Perform and understand engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, pressure, force
Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness in the development of equipment, processes, and products
Self-motivated and disciplined to time commitments while working on multiple projects
Clear communication ability to staff & clients in a professional manner
Located within 45 minutes of our office (Ancaster) is preferred
