Job Summary:
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Mechanical Engineering Intern will be responsible for the design and system integration of mechanical systems and subsystems for VisualSonics preclinical system and transducer products. Key responsibilities include updates to mechanical drawings and system integration of hardware subsystems that meet regulatory compliance, manufacturability, and service standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Conceptualize, design and implement mechanical systems, subsystems and apparatus according to specifications with the use of software tools and CAD tools.
Prepare test apparatus according to engineering requirements.
Participate in reviews of Functional Requirements Specifications for mechanical subsystems.
Implement mechanical systems in all phases of development, from prototyping to system integration and handover to Manufacturing.
Provide documentation for all designs and design processes, including mechanical design description documentation, mechanical drawings, and Bills of Materials.
Ensure that all mechanical designs meet appropriate levels of Regulatory compliance.
Ensure designs are reliable, easy to manufacture and of the lowest cost.
Source and order parts as required for prototypes, and assist Engineering in parts procurement for engineering versions.
Comply with current VisualSonics process development requirements.
Assist Engineering with preparation of test procedures and testing as required.
Work with Engineering to integrate manufacturability and reliability into mechanical designs.
Design and implement mechanical components required for test apparatus, or other in-house needs.
Ensure product development plans are adhered to.
Knowledge and Experience:
Enrolled in an accredited BS or MS Mechanical Engineering program
Experience with use of CAD tools such as Solid Works is a must.
Familiarity with manufacturing techniques for prototypes and production versions of products.
Familiarity with machine shop tools and procedures, including CNC machining.
Experience with machine tools and techniques an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
Mechanical assembly and practical prototyping skills.
Excellent dexterity and coordination for working with miniature devices.
Understanding of product development methodology, including specification, design, prototyping, system integration and validation.
Thorough understanding of mechanical design principles.
Strong experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks 3D.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with hands and perform meticulous task with precision.
Ability to work independently as well as within a team of professionals.
Ability to plan and execute engineering tasks within set deadlines.
Ability to effectively manage and prioritize assigned tasks.
Ability to apply innovative thinking to solving problems.
